WGU Tuition Discount

After six months of employment, you are eligible for a 75% tuition discount at WGU. In addition, a 50% tuition discount is available to legal spouses, domestic partners, legal children, sons/daughters-in law, parents, and parents-in-law. WGU currently offers online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in education, business, information technology, and health professions. Until further notice, as a temporary measure in response to COVID-19, WGU has waived the six months’ employment eligibility requirement.

The 75% discount for employees applies as long as you maintain term On Time Progress to Graduation (OTP). If you fail to meet term OTP but are able to maintain cumulative Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), you will receive a 50% discount. If you fail to maintain cumulative SAP, you are no longer eligible for a tuition discount. Eligibility for tuition discount is determined by the employee/student’s OTP or SAP status at the start of every term.

The 50% discount for family members applies if the student maintains OTP as defined and reported by WGU. Those students that do not meet the OTP requirement will not receive a discount. Eligibility for tuition discount is determined by the family member/student OTP status at the start of every term.

  • Term On-Time Progress (OTP) is defined as completing at least 12 units per term for undergraduate programs or at least 8 units per term for graduate programs. Cumulative OTP is measured by adding all passed assessments and then dividing by the number of terms enrolled. If the resulting number is 12 or higher for undergraduate student/employees or 8 or higher for graduate student/employees the student/employee is assumed to be making cumulative OTP.
  • Cumulative Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is defined as having passed at least 66.67% of enrolled units.

To receive and keep a tuition discount from WGU, the candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Be employed, or the family member of a person employed with WGU for at least six months.
  • Make payment arrangements by the first day of the term.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to WGU’s Financial Policy.
  • Complete the Online Tuition Discount form and submit to the Student Accounts Office each term.
  • The student/employee is not eligible for any scholarship offered through WGU.
  • All school work must be completed on the employee/student’s own time and not WGU’s time.
WGU Academy Tuition Rebate

As an employee of WGU or WGU Affiliates, you are eligible for up to six months of monthly tuition rebates*. The tuition rebate amount is 50% and extends to legal spouses, domestic partners, legal children, sons/daughters-in law, parents, and parents-in-law of employees.

Academy offers program pathways for various bachelor’s degrees within WGU for students who do not meet the academic requirements for entry into WGU. Academy courses are carefully aligned with the academic programs of WGU; however, Academy does not currently offer courses or certifications for prelicensure, nursing, or master’s degrees.

*Because Academy does NOT have a mechanism to create a discounted tuition charge for the employee/family discount, we must rebate part of your payment after you have made a regular payment. The rebate terms are dependent upon the type of payment that is made on your account and is described below. ACH payments can only be refunded at 100%, so students paying via ACH will only receive a refund after making two regular/full payments (every second payment).

Here Is How It Works: Once you know the program or degree area at WGU that interests you, visit the respective Academy page that is aligned with your college choice at WGU: Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Health, or Teaching, and do the following:

  1. Complete the enrollment process online, including paying your first tuition payment
  2. As prompted during enrollment, select the courses that align with your WGU program
  3. Take the online Orientation right away
  4. Schedule your Program for Academic and Career Advancement (PACA) cohort
  5. Begin your first academic course as soon as possible – even same day!

Each month, after you have paid your regularly scheduled monthly tuition**, you will send an email to accounting@academy.wgu.edu with the name and relation of the WGU or WGU Affiliate employee.

Once payment and employment status (and relation, if applicable) have been verified, you will receive confirmation that the applicable rebate will be applied as described below in the form of a refund to the original method of payment or a credit to your account balance (in the case of Extended Payment Plans).

Please allow 5-7 business days for the processing of each rebate. NOTE: You will need to submit a new rebate request for each month you make a tuition payment.

**Rebates are applied based on the type of Payment Plan you are on and the method of payment you used. For example, 50% of credit/debit card payments will be refunded; 100% of every second payment made through ACH will be refunded; credits will be applied to outstanding deferred balance of payment plans.

To receive and keep a tuition discount from WGU Academy, the student must follow the criteria below:

  • Be currently employed with WGU (or be a family member of a current employee)
  • Make your scheduled tuition payment on time each month
  • Submit an email to accounting@academy.wgu.edu after each payment is made and request the tuition rebate. Include employee’s name (and relation to student, as applicable).
  • Become familiar with and adhere to WGU Academy’s Student Policies
  • Complete your Academy school work on your own time and not during your regular workday, unless you have permission (Often, employees are allowed to have coaching sessions during work hours or lunch.)
